Garage Garage Studio Garage
Garage is a gauze clothing studio in Kyoto that was started by a couple who love making things, clothes, and creating things from scratch with their own hands. The husband and wife Nakanishi Tatsuya and Yoko are in charge of everything from design, pattern making, sewing, and dyeing.
One of the distinctive features of Garage's clothing is the bias weaving of double gauze fabric. Normally, clothing fabric is woven in the vertical and horizontal directions, but bias weaving creates stretchability in both directions. Bias weaving is not often used because it is not very efficient (lots of fabric loss), but doing so makes double gauze a more comfortable material to wear.
In addition, the double gauze's characteristics and texture are fully utilized by leaving the edges of the neck and other areas fluffy. The dyeing is also done by the designer himself, so the wide variety of colors is also appealing. The simple design is filled with the ingenuity that can only be achieved by handmade products.
