Koryo-cho in Nara Prefecture is known as the "town of socks," accounting for about 40% of the socks produced in Japan. In recent years, the proportion of socks imported from overseas has been increasing in the sock industry. Feeling a sense of crisis about this situation, volunteers from textile-related companies in Koryo-cho established the brand "ORGANIC GARDEN" in 1994. As the brand name suggests, Organic Garden's items are primarily made from organic cotton. Organic cotton is cotton that is grown on land that has not been sprayed with chemical fertilizers or pesticides for over three years, and has not been subjected to any chemical processing such as bleaching or shrinkage prevention. As it does not contain chemical substances, it is gentle on the skin and feels softer than chemically treated cotton. |
The oldest indigo dyeing technique: "natural lye fermentation" |

Introducing indigo-dyed socks from Organic Garden! The natural ecru base with elegant thin stripes is refreshing. The stripes and the blue of the toes are all dyed with indigo. Indigo dyeing, which has been popular in Japan for a long time, is said to have various medicinal uses, such as for rough skin, sensitivity to cold, insect repellent, and antibacterial properties. The indigo dye used on these socks is made using a method called "natural lye fermentation," which is said to be the oldest type of indigo dyeing. A dyeing material called "sukumo" is made by fermenting indigo extracted from the Japanese knotweed, a plant native to Japan. To this, "lye" and "bran" are added to promote natural fermentation and the dye is completed. These shoes have been made with a lot of time and effort, and are refreshing in both appearance and comfort. Why not try incorporating them into your fashion? |

The toe area has a unique uneven dye pattern, and the simple colors are sure to catch your eye and are soothing. It's interesting how the fabric retains the natural color and texture of the material. The length is designed to look beautiful when worn. The heel is also designed to prevent the shoes from slipping off. If you want to add a little accent to your feet, these indigo striped socks are perfect for that. |
