In China, it was regarded as one of the Eight Treasures, but it is said that it came to be generally loved in Japan after the mid-Edo period. Goldfish began to appear on kimonos in the Taisho and Showa eras, and their splendid appearance and slightly buttery smell were adopted as a pattern on the kimonos of my daughters and loved by them.
