"Arama" means "my soul" in the language of the indigenous Ainu people. Kato's works are imbued with the spiritual sensibility cultivated from his birth in Izumo, the "Land of the Gods," and his upbringing in Kyoto Nishiyama, the land of the Bamboo Cutter legend. His wide range of styles is also a characteristic feature, including pieces modeled after nature, those incorporating mechanisms, those with Kyoyuzen patterns, and those combining different materials such as python skin.
