"Arama" means "my soul" in the indigenous Ainu language. Kato's work is imbued with the spiritual sensibility he developed while born in Izumo, the "Land of the Gods," and raised in Nishiyama, Kyoto, the land of the Bamboo Cutter legend. His work is also characterized by a wide range of styles, including sculptures based on natural motifs, pieces incorporating gimmicks, pieces featuring Kyo-Yuzen patterns, and pieces that combine different materials such as snake skin.
