garage, a gauze clothing workshop in Kyoto, started with the idea of "I love making things, I love clothes, and I love creating things from scratch with my own hands." Tatsuya and Yoko Nakanishi, the husband and wife duo, handle everything from design, pattern making, sewing, to dyeing.

One of the characteristics of garage's clothing making is the bias cut (diagonal cut) of the double gauze fabric. Normally, clothing fabric is used according to the warp and weft of the weave, but by using a bias cut, elasticity is created in both the vertical and horizontal directions.

Within simple designs, ingenuity is incorporated to fully utilize the characteristics and texture of double gauze.

This is garage's original T-shirt design, featuring fluffy gauze tape on the chest.
The natural wrinkled texture, like freshly washed clothes, is also unique to garage, creating a relaxed feel.

While being unpretentiously simple, the gentle atmosphere of the gauze material and a touch of loveliness combine to create an item with a wonderful aura.

Made from 100% natural cotton gauze fabric, it boasts excellent absorbency and lightness. Its pleasant feel against the skin and the fact that it softens with each wash are also appealing features.

At Garage, we use fabric lavishly with a bias cut, which generates many scraps.
As a way to avoid wasting these scraps, they are used for designs around the neckline and for ruffles.

Gauze is an excellent fabric with moderate breathability and heat retention, making it suitable for all seasons. It has been used for baby clothes since ancient times and is one of the softest fabrics to the touch.

The distinctive feature of garage's gauze clothing is that it uses single gauze fabric cut on the bias (diagonally).

Although bias cutting is not efficient for fabric, it creates excellent elasticity in both the vertical and horizontal directions, allowing the garment to gradually fit the body shape as it is worn.
