"Jidai" is a brand and project that takes unused materials and materials for prototypes, adds new designs and ideas to increase their value (i.e. upcycles), and turns them into works of art and products.

"Jidai" is run by waji, a manufacturing group that produces leather wallets and small leather goods. Waji interprets one of the goals set out in the "SDGs" (Sustainable Development Goals) adopted at the United Nations Summit in September 2015, "Responsible Consumption and Production," in their own way, and strives to create products that customers truly want.



This series uses fire hoses as materials, made from recycled fire hoses that were actually used by the Sakai City Fire Department in Osaka Prefecture and that had exceeded their designated service life. The inside of the fire hose is made of rubber, while the outside is made of fiber and reflective material that are highly resistant to abrasion and heat.

By utilizing the characteristics of the material in the design, we have repurposed the fire hose from its role of "protecting our lives" into an item that can be used in everyday life.

Soft washable leather

A shoulder bag made from an upcycled fire hose that has outlived its useful life.
The color scheme, which combines brown and black leather, gives a classic and mature impression.

Fire hoses are about 2mm thick and are lined with rubber to allow for the transfer of large amounts of water.

This upcycled bag was created as an item that combines the width of the hose with a stylish design that is easy to incorporate into your daily life, with a size that makes the most of the hose's width, and colorful fabric and reflective material on the outside.

Furthermore, the genuine leather used is the same high-quality leather used for leather jackets, selected from a leather tannery that is used by high-end brands, and is dyed with a special dye that can be washed with water.
Although the bag itself cannot be washed, it is extremely resistant to the weaknesses of leather, such as hardening and water stains, even when wet.

Even if the surface gets wet, the moisture won't penetrate and the contents will be protected.

It's wide enough to fit a long wallet and even an 8- to 9.5-inch tablet. Its gusset allows you to place a 500ml PET bottle vertically. And it's tall enough to hold a B6-sized notebook. It's a convenient size that can also hold items other than the essentials you carry every day.

The canvas-like texture of the fire hose creates a casual atmosphere, while the unique lines add a stylish touch, and the cowhide leather gives it a sophisticated look.

It goes well with workwear and retro outfits, and can be easily incorporated into a wide range of outfits. The simple, unisex design makes it suitable for both men and women.

Fire hoses that have finished their service still retain traces of their use in the field, and even the scuffs and dirt give them a unique charm. These traces of time are the charm of upcycling.

Breathing new life into materials that we don't come into contact with in our daily lives seems to overlap with the "cherishing of things" that the Japanese have cherished since ancient times.
