Shogado is a Kyoto-based Japanese stationery manufacturer that produces Japanese books such as goshuincho (stamp books), pencil cases, origami paper, etc. While inheriting the traditional techniques of Kyo-Yuzen, they offer a wide variety of Japanese stationery that reconstructs traditional patterns with modern color schemes and designs.

All of Shogado's Japanese stationery is made in Japan, using Yuzen washi paper that has been carefully dyed by hand. The washi paper is sourced from Echizen (Fukui Prefecture) and other washi-producing areas in Japan. Yuzen washi paper is gorgeously dyed using multiple dyeing stencils and layered with colors by Kyoto artisans who have been involved with the company since it was founded in 1964, giving it a texture, shine, and presence that cannot be expressed with ordinary printing.

The design was created by mabo, an illustrator who belongs to the picture book design class "etote" in Kyoto.

The maiko with traditional Japanese hairstyle and the modern girl are wearing Kyoto Yuzen washi paper.
Two pieces of origami paper are stacked together to resemble a juban and a kimono.
Both the kimono and obi are made with Shogado's original Yuzen washi paper.
They are randomly selected and combined from dozens of original patterns.
There are a variety of patterns available, including traditional designs, modern designs, and pop color schemes.

Kyo-Yuzen washi paper printed in Kyoto is carefully crafted by artisans one by one.

This is a manual process using a silkscreen-like technique, where a different block is used for each colour and the pigments are applied with a spatula.
Yuzen paper dyed in this way has a soft texture, depth, and subtle shine that cannot be achieved through machine printing.

Another feature is that the colors do not fade easily because pigments are used. The elegant and beautiful Kyo-Yuzen is tailored with stylish color combinations and designs that are in line with modern sensibilities.

There are many different colors, patterns, and combinations of kimonos, obi, and undergarments.
You cannot choose the combination, but you'll have fun wondering what piece you'll receive!

You can only write one word, but that handwritten word contains feeling.
