Okamoto Hats is a hat workshop in Shirahama, Wakayama Prefecture, that uses high-quality materials from around the world to make hats, including braided hats (hats made by sewing together tape-like braided cords in a spiral shape). They work together with many fellow craftsmen from Japan and abroad to produce a wide variety of hats.

After graduating from university, Okamoto Kazuto, the representative of Okamoto Hats, worked in hat planning, design and sales at a hat wholesaler. He became interested in making hats after being impressed by the skills of hat craftsmen both in Japan and overseas, and trained as a hat craftsman at a long-established hat factory in Okayama Prefecture before going independent in 2014. He is also particular about the development of materials, and develops and manufactures his own original materials.

The theme of Okamoto Hats is "travel". Hats are special items that change the impression of your face just by wearing them. We deliver hats that are light and comfortable to wear, and allow you to experience a slightly different kind of fun and "your own style" than usual.

The material used for this hat is "Kishu Paper Thread," developed by Kazushi Okamoto of Okamoto Hats. It is a sustainable material made from recycled thinnings and scraps of cedar and cypress trees from Kishu, Wakayama Prefecture.

Paper thread, created through the papermaking process from wood, has a natural look that only natural materials can have, but is also highly durable, lightweight, and breathable.

This hat, made by Okamoto Hats, is approximately 25% lighter than our previous straw hats.
It is comfortable to wear for long periods of time and can also be folded.

Also, as is typical of natural materials, there are protruding fibers and uneven weave, which gives the fabric a unique character.

Since the products are made from natural materials, there may be individual differences even for the same color. Also, since they are handmade, there may be slight variations in shape and size. Please use the size as a guide only.

Please avoid washing as it may cause the shape to change or the color to fade.

To clean the sweatband, dab it with a damp towel that has been wrung out firmly to remove dirt. When doing so, hold the towel over the hat to avoid transferring dirt to it.

If it gets wet due to rain, wipe it off with a dry towel and dry it in the shade in a well-ventilated area. Avoid using a hair dryer when drying as this may cause the shape to change.

Store in a low humidity, dark place.
