Tezomeya is a dyeing studio in Kyoto that pursues dyeing with natural dyes. They use natural dyes such as madder, pomegranate, cornflower, gallnut, and indigo, and although they dye in simple, monochromatic colors, they have a complex, ambiguous, and indescribable gentle color that is very appealing.
In addition, everything from the materials to the detailed designs, patterns, and sewing processes are all original to Tezomeya! The thread is 100% cotton, which goes very well with natural dyes.
[9 colors available] Hanging knit jersey, naturally dyed. This is a refreshing striped shirt that has been released as an undyed version of the Basque shirt. The "Basque shirt" is a shirt that was originally worn by sailors in the "Basque region" that spans from France to Spain. Later, the famous painter Picasso wore it, and it became a famous model.
Nowadays, striped cut-and-sew tops are familiar items, but at Handomeya, we use design techniques that are firmly based on the basic design of the Basque shirt, and add our own original accents to create the ``Handomeya Striped Shirt.''
There are 9 colors in total. This is the border that Picasso liked. |

This shirt is made on a hanging knitting machine by Kanekichi Kogyo, a familiar name at Tezomeya. Until now, the machine was only capable of single-color knitting, but a team of young people at Kanekichi Kogyo has developed a hanging knitting machine that can draw out the potential of the knitting machine and knit striped patterns! Aoki, the owner of Tezomeya, said, "This item would not have been possible without Kanekichi Kogyo."
The yarn used is a twist of thick 20-count yarn (a unit of yarn thickness), and the fabric is rather thick and firm. By using a hanging knit jersey, it is not too stiff, and has a fluffy softness that makes it comfortable to wear.
There are many different striped designs for Basque shirts, but this loop-knit Basque shirt has a design that was "Picasso-like," with white areas remaining around the shoulders and upper chest.
*The border part is not naturally dyed. The border pattern is created by knitting yarn that has been pre-dyed blue.
It creates a beautiful silhouette when worn. |

(Left: Male) Model is 177cm tall and wearing the dull color. (Right: Female) Model is 156cm tall and wearing the ash-pink color.
The thick and sturdy fabric is also a particular point of the hand-dyed garment shop. By making it thicker, the lines of the sewn sleeves and boat neck can be clearly seen. Combined with points 1 and 2 of the details of each part below, it creates a beautiful silhouette when worn.
Many people dislike stripes because they think they will make you look fat because the horizontal lines are emphasized, but this Basque shirt will cover up even the most chubby bodies and will look good on people of all ages and genders.
This item will be the catalyst for you to incorporate the stylish Picasso style into your fashion.
