“Surrounded by greenery and clear streams, all I can hear is the nostalgic clatter-clatter of the loom…”. Kobo Oriza, a workshop that creates original scarves and mufflers using traditional looms, is located in a nature-rich, lush green area where time seems to slow down, deep in the mountains of Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, overlooking the Seto Inland Sea.

The workshop’s vintage looms are innovating the creation of comfortable fashion pieces that appeal to people of all ages and genders.

Among its creations is the rare “Yuragi-ori” muffler, featuring a design with soft, flowing waves. This weaving technique was awarded the “Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award at the 3rd Japan Manufacturing Award.”

Items created using traditional techniques are finding their place in modern fashion. Just as threads intertwine, people and tradition become intertwined… the products created by Kobo Oriza seem to serve as a bridge connecting the past and present.
